Giant Paper Flower Workshop // April 2nd

Who's ready to make these gorgeous paper flowers with us at Casa Artelexia?! Tania Fischer is back teaching her popular Giant Paper Flower Workshop. This will be a 4 hour, learn-it-all workshop, mixing both her basic and advanced class in one big giant workshop. There will be a brake for lunch (food not included in the price). You will learn how to make at least 4 large paper flowers and some leaves, includes materials (templates, tools, paper, secrets and tips). Plus you'll receive a how to on making your very own backdrop.

Tania Fischer is a Mexican-American artist based out of San Diego. She has a degree in Graphic Design. For the past 3 years she has been developing different giant paper flower techniques. Featured on Hostess with the Mostess, Catch my Party, and other blogs, Speaker at BASH Conference and Martha Stewart American made Nominee (2016). She is excited to teach another workshop, sharing her techniques, and tips as well as having a fun crafting time.

A Backyard Wedding Fiesta: The Decor

If you like color, textiles, pretty paper and twinkling white lights, then this Mexa-themed backyard wedding will be right up your alley.  With the help from some pretty rad women, we were able to achieve just the look we'd envisioned - playful and romantic.  Ay Mujer! made our customized papel picado banderitas and birds, The Roc Shop laser cut the #dlpchairez and salud confetti, Ashley Phillips hand painted all of the signs and Tania Fischer created the gorgeous flower wall backdrop.  Could these  ladies be any more talented?!  Thanks to Roxana Lopez, another super talented lady, we get to enjoy these lovely photos.

Workshops and Wine Wednesdays

Check out our new series of art workshops at Casa Artelexia for adults 21 and over, Workshops & Wine Wednesdays!  Join us every Wednesday from 6-8pm for a Day of the Dead inspired art workshop.  Classes are $20 cash, all materials and instruction included.  Adults 21 and over can bring their own drinks and snacks!  Learn to make flower crowns, sugar skulls, nichos to honor a loved one, pumpkin decorating and so much more!!  Space is limited - RSVP 619.544.1011

DIY Mini Tissue Paper Flowers

We are over here making millions of tissue paper flowers.  Okay, maybe not millions, but it sure does feel like it.  Volunteers have been stopping by all day long to help us with this fun little project.  All you need is tissue paper (or newspaper), scissors and ribbon.  Watch the video and follow along so you can make these at home!

String them together to make garland, add them to a gift to add some pizzaz, attach them to the back of a chair for some color or wear them in your hair!  The possibilities are endless… :)

DIY Tissue Paper Flowers

Hi there!  We have been busy bees over here making flowers galore for our new event space.  The walls, chairs and entry way have all been decorated with a variety of paper flowers.  You can spruce up any space and event with these easy to make (and affordable!) paper flowers.  Here are 10 easy steps that we have put together for you to join in on the flower-making-magic at home:

1.  Select 5 tissue paper colors and cut 2 sheets of each color - all the same size.  For a smaller flower, use 1 sheet. Fun tip: we used both tissue and crepe paper to give the flowers some texture.  

2.  Lay the 2 sheets of each color on top of each other and fold the sheets back and forth, accordion style.  You should have 5 separate accordions.

3.  Leaving out the color that will be the outer layer, cut each tissue accordion progressively smaller than the one above it by about 1 inch.  The tissue that will be the center will be the shortest.

4.  Cut the ends of each tissue either rounded or pointed, depending if you want scalloped or pointed petals.

5.  Unfold all of your colors.

6.  Put the outermost color (which will also be the longest) on the bottom, and stack them progressively smaller.

7.  Now, fold all of the colors together accordion style.

8.  Pinch the middle and secure with wire.

9.  Fan out the petals.

10.  Starting from the center, pull and fluff up each layer.
