Claudio Limon

We may be a wee bit obsessed with artist Claudio Limon's works. The pink Otomi mural he recently did for Hotel Matilda in San Miguel is leaving us swooning over his whimsical Mexican pop-art style. Hyperrealisitc Painter Eloy Morales

Can you believe that these are paintings and not photographs?!?!  They are absolutely spectacular.  I am  totally crushing on Eloy Morales right now.  I think that if I saw these in person that I'd spend hours on end just looking them over and over.  What do you think?  Do you find them as magical as I do?

The "Dome Lady" by Beverly Magennis

Artist Beverly Magennis' colorful guest house–complete with a kitchen and sleeping area–is more than just a place to house visitors. Actually, it doesn't quite fit the profile of a "house" at all. The 26' tall "Dome Lady" is shaped like a tall woman and one of the artist's many works of mosaic art that reflect the creative aesthetic of New Mexico and Mexico (I'm sensing a bit of Frida inspired flair here too!).

The "Dome Lady" stands on Magennis' former Apache Creek property in New Mexico, hands on her hips, and head looking over the grass. Her head and torso sit atop a large skirt covered in a row of smaller mosaic ladies, bright birds, and filigreed flowers.

And besides the dome's carefully constructed tile exterior, the inside was also a labor of love. It was constructed using unique building techniques and features a brick floor,  mosaic art, and a "rug" that perfectly complete this lovely lady abode.

A Holiday Celebration with David Lozeau!

A few weeks ago, our art show exhibited new artwork by Day of the Dead artist David Lozeau, and Casa Artelexia was teeming with avid fans eager to get signed copies of his artwork and purchase his stunning, original pieces. Fans were also able to sample craft beer, enter a raffle for some awesome prizes (Day of the Dead iPhone cases anyone??), and enjoy David's artwork.

If you missed the art show, you'll get another chance to see David Lozeau at our holiday party on December 21st from 14 to 4pm! There will be a book/art signing, delicious tamales, pan dulce, Mexican hot chocolate, free gift wrapping, face painting, pinata making and more! 

Britt's Picks: Mexican Folk Tales by Naomi Wilkinson

I stumbled upon UK based illustrator Naomi Wilkinson's artwork while looking on Etsy recently, and fell in love with her illustrations! She even has a set of Mexican folk tale illustrations and bright patterns that are absolutely lovely:

The Skully Stylings of David Lozeau

If you strolled through Downtown Disney sometime in September, you may have caught a glimpse of then artist-in-residence, David Lozeau creating some of his elaborate and imaginative lowbrow artwork.

Lozeau, a San Diego local, draws his inspiration from Day of the Dead images and pop surrealism, and he's collaborated with names like Disney and Harley Davidson to create unique artwork that you can also see scattered throughout Casa Artelexia, prominently displayed in rustic, custom wooden frames that he creates himself. And in a few weeks, you'll get to see much more of his paintings during his annual art show here.

On November 23d from 6 to 10pm, David Lozeau will be doing a live painting in the Casa Artelexia art gallery, and showing his other original artwork, with prints and giclees available to purchase. You'll be able to meet him, enjoy a raffle and giveaways, music, craft beer and wine, and a gourmet food truck. The first 50 to show up get a special gift!
