Frida Friday

Frida Kahlo, the illustrious unibrowed and colorfully clad artist continues to be a source of inspiration for countless artists, writers, and creative types. We’re Frida fans ourselves, which is why we’re dedicating a post to Frida and all of the happenings around Casa Artelexia that celebrate her:

The Frida Kahlo Photo Collage Workshop
Last Saturday we hosted a Frida Kahlo photo collage workshop where participants chose large black & white photos of Frida (we had Diego too!) and used them to create their own one of a kind collages on canvas.

We supplied milagro charms, colorful feathers and garland, neon paint, Mexican fabric, Loteria cards, stamps, glitter, and other crafty goodies. The result was a plethora of beautiful, bright artwork, each piece unique, some with a story behind them. This was definitely a group of super creative artists!

Frida Kahlo Party and Look-Alike Contest
On June 29th, we’ll be hosting our annual Frida Kahlo party and Look-Alike Contest in celebration of Frida’s birthday. It’ll be a party like none other, with tightly braided hair, painted unibrows, and frilly Mexican dresses.

Frida fans will compete in different contest categories for the title of best Frida, and we’ll have a photobooth, arts and crafts (paper flower crowns!), and drinks and snacks. So get ready to “go all out” in your best Frida outfits and grow out those unibrows (…just kidding)!
